La Habra High School offers a comprehensive program of the fine and performing arts. Music courses emphasize an understanding of fundamental musicianship skills, providing students with the necessary tools for musical performance. Art courses are planned with an emphasis on individualized instruction in the areas of two-dimensional, three dimensional, and photographic art. Drama offers students an opportunity to participate in all aspects of theater including acting, movement, set design, directing, lighting, makeup, costuming, and publicity.
Three-Dimensional Design emphasizes the development of individual craft projects with a variety of materials.
Drawing and Painting includes drawing, painting, print making, and illustration.
Photography teaches how to use the camera, develop film, and produce black and white prints.
Advanced Photography includes advanced darkroom and photographic skills.
Drama 1, 2, 3 all provide students with instruction in the skills of acting at a beginning, intermediate or advanced level. Courses also include instruction and student participation in stage setting, properties, costuming, lighting, sound, and other production skills.
Performing Arts Production Management is a specialized course to develop the technical and managerial skills of the theater.
Instrument Study offers beginning instruction on any band or orchestra instrument.
Concert Band is a course in the playing of brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments.
Symphonic Band is an advanced instrumental group. Performance participation beyond the regular school day is required.
Jazz Ensemble provides advanced performance opportunities for small groups of musicians playing music from jazz to rock.
P.E. Band, in which students practice marching routines, meets California physical education requirements while students prepare for performances in parades, at band competitions, and at athletic events.
Concert Choir is a class for all male and female singers, regardless of experience. In this class, students will learn music by experiencing choral rehearsals and performances, by studying sight reading, and by exploring music from all over the world. Students may enter this class simply by signing up with their counselor. This class may be repeated all four years. Students in the Concert Choir are encouraged to audition for the Chamber Singers in May or January.
Vocal Ensemble (Chamber Singers) is an auditioned zero period choir class. Auditions are held in late May of the previous year, and again in January if spaces become available in the group. The Chamber Choir is no larger than 24 mixed voices and offers students advanced experiences in choral performance. All students in the Chamber Singers are encouraged to enroll for Concert Choir. This class may be repeated all four years.
