The Foreign Language Department at La Habra High School offers five levels of three different languages [French, German, Spanish]. Each year the goal of language learning is for students to increase their ability to converse in and understand the language. The first two years of language study focus on communication: acquiring the fundamental skills of conversation, grammar, reading, writing. In the following years, students learn additional phrases for conversation and continue to increase basic vocabulary skills. Advanced levels include more comprehensive oral response and more examination of the literature and culture of the country.

Students in the fourth and fifth level of each language have the option of preparing for the Advanced Placement examination for college credit.

SPECIAL FEATURES

Many faculty members have lived, traveled or studied in other countries giving them a broad perspective into language acquisition and diverse cultures. Many students take Advanced Placement language and literature tests with a passage rate of 87% over the past nine years.
