Motor Skills and Movement Knowledge

The student will:
  • determine a movement-related goal and develop a practice plan to meet that goal.
  • apply the correct technique for fundamental movement patterns in activities of choice.
  • create a new movement-related game.
  • analyze movement performance using scientific principles of movement to learn or improve movement skills.
  • demonstrate different movement and motor skills.
  • create an individualized wellness program for various stages of life.
  • participate in a health-related fitness test.

Self-Image and Personal Development

The student will:
  • plan appropriate movement-related activities according to individual differences.
  • assess current level of fitness and movement skill ability.
  • participate regularly in movement-related physical activities.
  • use physical activities as a means of reinforcing interpersonal relationships.
  • develop a positive mental attitude and self-esteem.
  • appreciate and value the aesthetic features of movement.
  • appreciate how aesthetic features contribute to movement activities.
  • appreciate the act of practicing to master a movement skill.

Social Development

The student will:
  • demonstrate appropriate interpersonal skills in a movement-related experience.
  • demonstrate an understanding and respect for other people in physical activity settings.

  • understand that physical activity provides opportunities for enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction.

ADVANCED PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Motor Skills and Movement Knowledge

The student will:
  • analyze movement performance.
  • apply the fundamental movement skills in individual and dual sports, outdoor education, self-defense, and dance.
  • develop a practice plan for himself/herself, taking into consideration his/her stage of development.
  • create a variety of offensive/defensive strategies for a new individual/dual game.
  • analyze movement performance using application of levers to learn or improve a movement skill.
  • analyze the mechanical principles involved in a fitness workout.
  • analyze individual/dual performance using scientific principles of movement in order to improve skills.
  • assess personal fitness.
  • apply principles of training to monitor and adjust activity levels to meet individual fitness needs.
  • set goals for improvement or maintenance of personal fitness.
  • understand the relationship between nutrition and a healthy lifestyle.

Self-Image and Personal Development

The student will:
  • understand the relationship between the development of the sensory system and selection of developmentally appropriate activities.
  • identify ways in which personal characteristics, performance styles, and activity preferences will change over the life cycle.
